Recap: St. Joseph Catholic Eagles vs. Covenant Christian Cougars
It was a good run, but the St. Joseph Catholic Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 45-23 loss at the hands of Covenant Christian. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as St. Joseph Catholic came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Covenant Christian is ranked 942nd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covenant Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keeley Chaddick, who scored 16 points along with 5 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Chaddick has scored at least 25% of Covenant Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Ely Matthews, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds.
St. Joseph Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-1. As for Covenant Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-5.
St. Joseph Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Central Texas Christian at 2:30 p.m. on December 19th. As for Covenant Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chinquapin at 5:30 p.m.
