Baseball Recap: Knox Central Victorious

Knox Central hadn't done well against Clay County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 6-3. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly three runs.

Hayden Melton made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Knox Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Bentley Cobb looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Knox Central is 2-1 when Cobb allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Powenski, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Knox Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2025.

The victory got Knox Central back to even at 5-5. As for Clay County, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-4.

Looking ahead, Knox Central will welcome North Laurel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clay County, they are taking a road trip to challenge Powell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
