Softball Recap: Westwood Victorious

Westwood hadn't done well against Northern Highlands recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cardinals skirted past the Highlanders 5-4. This was payback for the Cardinals, who suffered an 11-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ella Ianni spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caroline Rome, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn McKay also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Westwood now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Northern Highlands, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westwood will challenge Lyndhurst at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northern Highlands, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pascack Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Highlanders 3.6, the Panthers 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
