For the first time this season, Tulpehocken will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Schuylkill Valley Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Tulpehocken is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Tulpehocken came up short against Wyomissing and fell 9-6. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Aaron Wilson and Hank Gehman did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilson scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Gehman scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Coderre, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Even though they lost, Tulpehocken was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Schuylkill Valley hadn't done well against Brandywine Heights Area recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Schuylkill Valley came out on top against Brandywine Heights Area by a score of 8-3. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Bullets on their field since May 6, 2019.
Schuylkill Valley's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Nawrocki, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Nawrocki is becoming a predictor of Schuylkill Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Another was Wisten Ramos, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Tulpehocken's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Schuylkill Valley, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Tulpehocken's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. Tulpehocken has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Schuylkill Valley, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Tulpehocken continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Tulpehocken's way against Schuylkill Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Tulpehocken made off with an 8-1 victory. Does Tulpehocken have another victory up their sleeve, or will Schuylkill Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
