TEHACHAPI, Calif. - Saturday saw a surprise upset in California where 
West (Bakersfield, Calif.) triumphed over 
Tehachapi (Calif.) 31-13.
The Vikings were up 21-13 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by 
Javaundre Howington in the second quarter.
West expanded its lead to 15 points entering the fourth quarter. WHS's lone score in the quarter came on a passing touchdown.
The Bakersfield school's most effective player was Howington. The senior ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
Jorge Garcia made a difference for the Warriors. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 19 on the year.
	
The Vikings came in allowing an average of 27.9 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding Tehachapi well below its season average of 31.5 points scored per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for WHS, which was coming off a 51-28 defeat at the hands of St. Joseph in its previous game.
