Baseball Recap: Fernley Takes a Loss

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Fernley and Lowry meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. Fernley fell 6-1 to Lowry. The Vaqueros haven't had much luck with the Buckaroos recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Hayden Lyon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Fernley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vance Swindlehurst, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Those two hits gave Swindlehurst a new career-high.

Fernley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13-1. As for Lowry, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Fernley and Lowry will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time Fernley sees the field they'll take on Dayton at 4:00 p.m. on April 10. As for Lowry, their break will end when they face North Valleys at 4:00 p.m. on April 10.
