Softball Game Preview: Granite City Warriors vs. Belleville East Lancers

Granite City is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Belleville East is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Warriors will welcome the Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Granite City proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Dupo 6-5.

Christine Myers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexis Ruiz, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Saggio, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Belleville East). They never let East St. Louis get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Thursday. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Belleville East is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Granite City, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
