Baseball Recap: Deerfield Beach Has No Trouble Against Olympic Heights

Deerfield Beach won the last time they faced Olympic Heights and things went their way on Friday too. The Bucks blew past the Lions 11-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Bucks as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Easton Viveros made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Deerfield Beach is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Viveros was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Deerfield Beach let Cory Gourdet and Diego Avila run wild. Gourdet scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Avila went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. What's more, Gourdet posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Leonardo Noguera, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Deerfield Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Deerfield Beach's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Olympic Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Deerfield Beach and Olympic Heights could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Bucks will take on Cardinal Gibbons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (309 vs. 139). Meanwhile, Olympic Heights (ranked 514th) will meet West Boca Raton (ranked 227th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
