Winchester Community proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Northeastern Knights 2-1. The win was familiar territory for the Golden Falcons, who have now won six contests in a row.

Landen Porfidio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Porfidio was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Porfidio wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Allen, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Winchester Community's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northeastern, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winchester Community will head out to square off against Jay County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Northeastern, they will venture away from home to take on Hagerstown at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
