Volleyball Recap: Kearns Comes Up Short

Kearns was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hillcrest Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Hillcrest scored at least 17 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 25-18.

Despite the defeat, Kearns saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lisa Malaefono had 14 digs and two aces. Malaefono has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last five times she's played.

Adrie Sullivan went supernova For Hillcrest., getting 14 digs and five aces. What's more, Sullivan posted two assists, the most she's had over her last eight contests.

Kearns' loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Hillcrest, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season.

Kearns didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Taylorsville on the 14th. As for Hillcrest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against West Jordan on the 14th.
