Volleyball Recap: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks
If Mt. Carmel was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Mission Hills last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sundevils lost 3-0 to the La Costa Canyon Mavericks on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-0 loss back in September.
While Mt. Carmel had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-19, 25-18.
Leading La Costa Canyon to victory were Presley Thompson and Olivia Lee. Thompson had nine digs and two aces, while Lee had ten assists and four digs. Thompson is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 16-13. As for La Costa Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-11 record this season.
Coincidentally, Mt. Carmel and La Costa Canyon will both be playing Poway the next time they take the court. The Sundevils will head out to face the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Mavericks will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
