Baseball Recap: Maryvale Takes a Loss

Maryvale had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-5 to make it four. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nichols Vikings. The game marked the Flyers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Maryvale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Donahue, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Nichols, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On Nichols' side, Trenton Ruffolo was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Ruffolo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Derek McIntyre, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Maryvale didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-7 victory against Iroquois on the 19th. As for Nichols, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against St. Mary's on the 16th.
