Baseball Recap: Knightdale's Losing Streak Snapped at Nine Games

Knightdale came into Wednesday's game having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the South Garner Titans on Wednesday. The Knights not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 28th.

Taybron Simpson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Simpson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Knightdale let Maximo Jimenez and Manley Cosper run wild. Jimenez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Cosper scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave Cosper a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gary Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Knightdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Knightdale's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for South Garner, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Knightdale and South Garner could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Knights will square off against Millbrook at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (359 vs. 34). Meanwhile, South Garner (ranked 462nd) will meet Fuquay - Varina (ranked 125th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
