Basketball Game Preview: Vernon Vikings vs. Westwood Cardinals

The Vernon Vikings will square off against the Westwood Cardinals on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Vernon can't be too worried about heading out to take on Westwood: they just beat Veritas Christian Academy at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Vernon snuck past Veritas Christian Academy with a 39-34 win last Monday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with Veritas Christian Academy recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westwood). They walked away with a 64-51 win over Caldwell on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cardinals' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Chiefs are ranked 47th).

The win got Vernon back to even at 6-6. As for Westwood, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-9.

Vernon suffered a grim 50-30 defeat to Westwood in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
