Football Recap: Avenal Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Avenal had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were dealt a 65-0 loss at the hands of the McLane Highlanders on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

McLane found their leader in sophomore Vernon Lacy, who threw for 184 yards and five touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes. Julyen Scott did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 47 receiving yards.

Coming up, Avenal will venture away from home to challenge Strathmore at 7:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for McLane, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mendota at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
