Softball Recap: Hebbronville's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Hebbronville dropped their record down to 18-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Rio Grande City Rattlers by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Longhorns couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Rio Grande City, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

For Rio Grande City's part, Jorja Fuentes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Fuentes has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Leilani Reyna was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kayla Vega, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI.

Hebbronville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 22-0 victory against Santa Rosa on the 25th. As for Rio Grande City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Gregory-Portland on the 25th.
