Basketball Recap: Wenonah Takes a Loss

Wenonah was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 51-44 to the Jackson Central Merry Cougars. The Dragons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Wenonah still got an impressive performance from Zariah Evans, who shot 75% from the field en route to 12 points and five steals. Evans is becoming a predictor of the Dragons' success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jaliya Johnson, who posted six points and seven boards.

Wenonah's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Jackson Central Merry, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Wenonah will venture away from home to take on Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jackson Central Merry, they will head out to challenge Fayette Ware at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
