Softball Game Preview: Bellport Clippers vs. Comsewogue Warriors

The Bellport Clippers will take on the Comsewogue Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bellport has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bellport came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 17-5 to Ward Melville.

Bellport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caitlin Maragioglio, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Gianna Brown also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Comsewogue had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Smithtown West.

Maggie Burrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Napolitano, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.

Comsewogue's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bellport, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
