Softball Game Preview: La Cueva Bears vs. Capital Jaguars

The La Cueva Bears will face off against the Capital Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Capital will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: La Cueva extended their winning streak to 12 on Saturday. The Bears put the hurt on Eldorado with a sharp 15-3 win.

Meanwhile, Capital got themselves on the board against Taos on Wednesday, but Taos never followed suit. They blew past the Tigers 15-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.

Brooklyn Cardenas was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Jadyn Padilla was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

La Cueva's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Capital, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6-1.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. La Cueva hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
