Softball Recap: Conant Comes Up Short

Conant had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 14-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Lane Tech Champions by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since May 30, 2025.

Conant saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Schiffner, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Kiana Leopoldo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Lane Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

On Lane Tech's side, Sofia Stronsky looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stronsky has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arianna Marin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run.

Coming up, Conant will welcome Willowbrook at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.57 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. Lane Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
