Softball Game Preview: Narraguagus Knights vs. Sumner Tigers

The Narraguagus Knights are taking a road trip to face off against the Sumner Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Narraguagus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

Narraguagus proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Jonesport-Beals 4-2. The victory was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on three straight.

Natalie Stanwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Narraguagus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Shaw, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Sumner came up short against Orono on Thursday and fell 5-1. The Tigers have struggled against the Riots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Narraguagus' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Sumner, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Narraguagus skirted past Sumner 5-3 when the teams last played on May 12th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
