Baseball Recap: South Gate Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Glenn, South Gate was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Wilson Mules. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Mules: they've now won three in a row.

South Gate got a great performance from Ernesto Brenes as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Brenes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Gate let Lucio Salazar and Joseph Delgado run wild. Salazar went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Delgado scored a run while going 2-for-2. Jose Mendoza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

The victory got South Gate back to even at 3-3. As for Wilson, they moved to 5-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, South Gate will square off against North Hollywood at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in South Gate's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while North Hollywood has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Wilson, they will take on Hawkins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilson's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Hawkins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
