No. 2 seed McEachern included in announcement but social media fueling speculation about participation.
The matchups are set for GEICO Nationals, which is scheduled for April 4-6 in New York. The event is designed to help crown a true national champion in high school basketball but that hope is being clouded by questions surrounding one of the top contenders.
Multiple social media posts suggest several key
McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) players will not be available, including MaxPreps National Player of the Year candidate
Sharife Cooper. However, the Indians were included in an official announcement Monday afternoon.
Joining McEachern (perhaps tentatively) in New York will be
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.),
La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.),
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.),
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.),
Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.),
Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah) and
University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
All eight schools are included in this week's MaxPreps national Top 25.
Every game in the three-day tournament will be broadcast on ESPN's family of networks.
