4A Oregon West recap September 24, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Oregon West this week, Philomath beat Gladstone 28-27,. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Cascade led the league in scoring this week by notching 48 points on Sisters.
Nathan Aldrich made the biggest impact on defense this week as Central bested Scappoose. The 6-foot-1 senior.
Wesley Riddell was the best running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 139 yards as the Panthers beat the Indians. Tell Cruickshank also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.
Hobgood was the best wideout in 4A Oregon West this week as Central defeated Scappoose. Hobgood tallied 2 receptions for 79 yards. Cramer Harlow helped Central's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 36 yards.
Brendan Thurber-Blaser put up the best numbers through the air as Newport fell to Seaside. He finished with a total of 7 completions for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns. Thurber-Blaser's favorite target this week was Luke Richcreek, who caught 3 passes for 36 yards.
Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ben Finnegan has thrown for 717 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Hobgood has 11 catches for 203 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Philomath takes on second place Central.
Shane Hedrick's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,718 from 5,198. The improvement came about via a 22-14 victory over Sean Mcnabb's team last week.
