Basketball Game Preview: St. Petersburg Green Devils vs. Port Charlotte Pirates

The St. Petersburg Green Devils will head out to take on the Port Charlotte Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. Petersburg is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Countryside, posting a 67-40 victory.

St. Petersburg relied on the efforts of Shaw Summer, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 19 boards, and Ella Abernethy, who posted 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Summer's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Quay Curry was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Port Charlotte had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.1 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Seahawks 61-11. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Seahawks are ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Port Charlotte's win came from a few key players St. Petersburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rihanna Rosario, who had 13 points and three steals. What's more, she also posted a 57% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Gipson, who put up 11 points and three steals.

Port Charlotte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

St. Petersburg's record is now 18-9. As for Port Charlotte, their record now sits at 21-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: St. Petersburg has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 37.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Port Charlotte struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 boards.
