Basketball Game Preview: West Campus Warriors vs. Armijo Royals

West Campus has won four straight games at home, while Armijo has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The West Campus Warriors will welcome the Armijo Royals at 7:00 p.m. West Campus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Armijo likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, West Campus was able to grind out a solid victory over Valley, taking the game 61-49. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 529th, while the Vikings are ranked 1250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Zach Villanueva continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9 of 16 to rack up 24 points in addition to six boards and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of West Campus' points. Kiefer Wilbur was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

West Campus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Armijo hadn't done well against Vacaville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Armijo came out on top against Vacaville by a score of 66-54.

West Campus has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points over those games. As for Armijo, their win bumped their record up to 8-17.

Everything came up roses for West Campus against Armijo when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 92-52 victory. Does West Campus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Armijo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
