Baseball Recap: Mohawk Area Warriors vs. Ellwood City Wolverine
Mohawk Area extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ellwood City Wolverine. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverine this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Monday.
Jackson Chapman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Chapman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cash Stratton, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Ellwood City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games.
On Ellwood City's side, Jordan Keller and Samuel Landis did most of the damage at the plate: Keller went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Landis got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jacob Biskup, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mohawk Area will challenge Hopewell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ellwood City, they will face off against Western Beaver at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
