Basketball Preview: Liberty County Bulldogs vs. Blountstown Tigers
Liberty County is 2-8 against the Tigers since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Liberty County Bulldogs are on the road again and plays the Blountstown Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Liberty County: 23.2, the Tigers: 29.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
With a playoff game on the line, Liberty County rose to the challenge on Monday. They strolled past the Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 42-26.
Gabriella Flowers was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleigh Peddie, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Blountstown had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.6 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Monday. They blew past Cottondale 57-17 on the road. Blountstown has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 21 points or more this season.
Blountstown relied on the efforts of Cyianna Smith, who scored 15 points, and Jill Davis, who scored 16 points. Davis is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. Jalynn Copeland was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Liberty County is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Blountstown, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
Things could have been worse for Liberty County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-35 loss to the Tigers in their previous matchup last Friday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Smith, who scored 27 points. Now that Liberty County knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
