Basketball Recap: Beau Brake and Cade Lewis Secure Win for Coastal Brigade

While Coastal Brigade didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 51-41 win over the Mount Calvary Christian Academy Warriors on Thursday. Those 51 points were actually the fewest Coastal Brigade has put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Coastal Brigade was led to victory by Cade Lewis and Beau Brake. Lewis went 8-for-17 en route to 20 points and five steals, while Brake shot 71% from the field on his way to 12 points in addition to six steals and four blocks. Those four blocks gave Brake a new career-high. Kai Betts also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Mount Calvary Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jentzen Wade, who posted 16 points and five rebounds. That was a full 39% of Mount Calvary Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row Wade has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Howell, who earned eight points and six boards.

The victory was the third in a row for Coastal Brigade, bringing their record up to 4-1. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Mount Calvary Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-34 win against Ahoskie Christian on the 14th. Hopefully Coastal Brigade paid attention to Mount Calvary Christian Academy's game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on Mount Calvary Christian Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
