League recap: Phillips throws longest pass in league this season for Estero

Christian Phillips and Rasheen Bailey provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Palmetto Ridge. The connection was good for 54 yards, the longest such play in 5A District 11 this season.

Estero moved up to 268 from 296 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of a 39-20 win over the Bears.

Estero's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Phillips threw for 275 and two touchdowns and Nick Nataro had 102 yards receiving. On the ground Eric McFadden chipped in 179 yards. Rodolfo Sasso helped Estero's passing attack out by catching five balls for 47 yards.

Estero's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Wildcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Phillips has thrown for 1039 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Sasso has 28 catches for 307 yards. McFadden leads the league in rushing with 826 yards.

The top two teams in 5A District 11 will face off this week when first place Estero takes on second place Cape Coral. Rich Dombroski's team bested Palmetto Ridge last week, while Cape Coral.

There should be lots of points scored when the Wildcats and the Seahawks face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Estero comes in having scored 145 this season, while Cape Coral has scored 133. The Wildcats scored 39 points last week as they beat Ryan Mitchell's team.

Estero made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,790 from 5,503. The improvement was the result of 39-20 victory over the Bears last week.
