Basketball Game Preview: River Valley Vikings vs. Cristo Rey Cougar

The River Valley Vikings will take on the Cristo Rey Cougar in a tournament on Saturday. River Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 contests -- so hopefully Cristo Rey likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, River Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Bloom-Carroll, but they still walked away with a 61-55 win. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

River Valley had a senior duo take command as Chase Ebert went 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points in addition to five assists and three steals and Sawyer Weston went 6-for-11 en route to 18 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Weston now owns an excellent 45.3% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Pollock, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 66 points the game before, Cristo Rey was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were outmatched by Horizon Science Academy and fell 63-14. The Cougar have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

River Valley pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points over those games. As for Cristo Rey, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.
