Football Recap: Southern Wayne Takes a Loss

After soaring to 32 points the game before, Southern Wayne was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were beaten by the Smithfield-Selma Spartans 42-7. The Saints were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Naeem Longmire had a dynamite game For Smithfield-Selma., rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Jeremy Smith got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Southern Wayne's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Smithfield-Selma, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Southern Wayne and Smithfield-Selma will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Saints are set to face off against their familiar foe Southern Nash at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma will challenge rival South Garner at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
