Softball Game Preview: Newton Cardinals vs. Pleasantville Trojans

The Newton Cardinals will head out to challenge the Pleasantville Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Newton has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newton came up short against Boone on Tuesday, falling 14-5. The Cardinals have struggled against the Toreadors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pleasantville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against Interstate 35 by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday.

Pleasantville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Everything went Newton's way against Pleasantville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Newton made off with a 13-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
