Baseball Recap: Barringer Comes Up Short

Barringer extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-9. They lost 16-6 to the Nutley Raiders. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Bears have lost by exactly ten runs.

Melvin Alvarez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Fred Guerrero was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Nutley, their win bumped their record up to 12-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Nutley's side, they got a great performance from Nick Gaccione as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Gaccione has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Leo Fernandez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Raboy, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Barringer will venture away from home to square off against Eastside at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Nutley, they will welcome West Essex at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
