Baseball Recap: Godwin Gets the Win

Godwin won the last time they faced Freeman and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 8-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Jacob Babcock was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matthew Hartsfield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carter Donham, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Godwin's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Freeman, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.

Coming up, Godwin will host Clover Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Freeman, they will take on Glen Allen at 6:45 p.m. on Monday.
