The Gahr Gladiators will square off against the Etiwanda Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Gahr is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let La Salle get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory.
The team relied heavily on Andres Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Adrien Ramirez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Etiwanda got the win against Notre Dame (SO) on Friday by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Eagles have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Michael Aleman tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Etiwanda is 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 10-11-1 otherwise.
At the plate, Lj Roellig was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Etiwanda's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-0-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Angel Mejia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Gahr has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Etiwanda, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12-1.
Gahr took their win against Etiwanda when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Gladiators repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
