Football Game Preview: Bessemer Academy Rebels vs. South Choctaw Academy Rebels

Bessemer Academy will venture away from home to square off against South Choctaw Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bessemer Academy's offense hasn't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bessemer Academy is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Chambers Academy on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Bessemer Academy had to suffer through a 62-7 loss at the hands of Chambers Academy. While losing is never fun, Bessemer Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 390th, while Chambers Academy is ranked 162nd).

Meanwhile, after only six points in their last game, South Choctaw Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against Monroe Academy on Friday. The Rebels put the hurt on the Volunteers with a sharp 38-17 win. Considering the Rebels have won five matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

South Choctaw Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Bessemer Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Bessemer Academy came up short against South Choctaw Academy in their previous matchup back in August of 2024, falling 48-44. Can Bessemer Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
