Baseball Recap: Monarch Triumphs

After low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, Monarch brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on the Boyd Anderson Cobras with a sharp 13-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Knights' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Nathan Zolnowski tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Yamil Alba, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season. Van Maxwell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Monarch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Monarch's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4.

Coming up, Monarch will challenge American Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Boyd Anderson, they will welcome Deerfield Beach at 3:44 p.m. on Thursday.
