It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bishop Union had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 47-28 victory over the South Gate Rams. The win was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on five straight.
Bishop Union's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emory Dondero, who threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 38 yards and one TD. That's the most passing touchdowns Dondero has posted since back in October of 2024. Hunter Dailey was another key back, rushing for 125 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.
Another reason for the win was Bishop Union's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. South Gate's QB won't forget Levi Derr anytime soon given he sacked him three times.
South Gate lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Joshua Navarro, who rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Fonseca, who picked up 181 receiving yards and one TD.
Bishop Union's victory bumped their record up to 12-3. As for South Gate, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.
Looking ahead, Bishop Union will welcome Calaveras at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Red Hawks' defense has only allowed 8.6 points per game this season, so the Broncos' offense will have their work cut out for them. South Gate does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
