Softball Game Preview: Shaler Area Titans vs. Plum Mustangs

Shaler Area has won six straight games at home, while Plum has won six straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Titans will host the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Shaler Area 1.1, Plum 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Plum's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: Shaler Area hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Titans never let Fox Chapel get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Wednesday. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Plum was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Fox Chapel.

Riley Stephans was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Jaiden Gentile was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Lily DeLuca, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Shaler Area's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Plum, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.

Shaler Area was able to grind out a solid win over Plum in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 4-0. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
