Baseball Recap: Juniata Valley's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Juniata Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Williamsburg Blue Pirates as they made off with an 11-1 victory. This was a revenge game for the Hornets: when they faced off against the Blue Pirates back in April, they had to take a 6-0 defeat.

Kyler Spurlin made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Juniata Valley let Logan Harpster and Ethan Scalia run wild. Harpster went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Scalia got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Harpster has posted since back in March.

Juniata Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Williamsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.

Juniata Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-6 loss against Bellwood-Antis on the 10th. As for Williamsburg, they have also already played their next matchup, a 4-1 defeat against Curwensville on the 12th.
