Basketball Recap: Kennedy Cougars vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

The Kennedy Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 71-44 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. Kennedy has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Kennedy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dondre Prothro. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aharon Young, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

It was another big night for Brandon Gibson Jr, who scored 23 points along with three blocks for Monterey Trail. Derron White was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.

Kennedy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for Monterey Trail, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy will take on the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. River City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 729th, while the Cougars are ranked 333rd). As for Monterey Trail, they will head out on the road to challenge the Pacers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Grant is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
