Football Game Preview: Delta Eagles vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

The Delta Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Delta managed to slip by Pendleton Heights the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles were outmatched by the Arabians and fell 49-6. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Arabians are ranked 21st).

The losing side was boosted by Amir Hill, who rushed for 123 yards on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Greenfield-Central challenged Yorktown on Friday. The Cougars were beaten by the Tigers 35-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Tigers since September 28, 2018.

Greenfield-Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Delta, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Delta has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Greenfield-Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 201.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Delta was taken down by Greenfield-Central 42-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Dallas Freeman (who rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 166 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
