Baseball Game Preview: Sun Valley Spartans vs. Weddington Warriors

For the second straight game, Sun Valley will face off against Weddington. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sun Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Sun Valley got their first taste of in-conference action on Wednesday and they started things off strong. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Weddington. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Warriors on their field since March 25, 2022.

Sun Valley got a great performance from Connor Salerno as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Salerno is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brian Devereaux, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jessen Copeland, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sun Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Weddington, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 10-3 record.
