Baseball Recap: Heritage Eagles vs. Mountain Vista Golden Eagles
Heritage had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it five. They lost 9-3 to the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Jameson Switzer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
As for Mountain Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.
On Mountain Vista's side, Alex King was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. King has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Keaton Maiorana looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
Back at the plate, Mountain Vista let Spike Magill and Cole Bobbin run wild. Magill went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Bobbin went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Bobbin has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Mitchell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Heritage is set to square off against their familiar foe ThunderRidge at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mountain Vista will face off against rival Legend at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
