Baseball Game Preview: Hopkins Hilltoppers vs. Brunswick School Bruins

The Hopkins Hilltoppers will head out to square off against the Brunswick School Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Hopkins made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Frederick Gunn, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hilltoppers blew past the Highlanders 10-3 on Monday. Considering the Hilltoppers have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Sean Studley made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tommy O'Connell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Rocco DeMaio III was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Meanwhile, Brunswick School didn't have quite enough to beat Millbrook School on Friday and fell 4-3.

Brunswick School also got a good showing from Johnny Gally, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Jack Bylow made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. Maximus Gabelli also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory got Hopkins back to even at 3-3. As for Brunswick School, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-3.

Hopkins might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Brunswick School in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Hilltoppers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
