Basketball Recap: Pymatuning Valley's Winning Streak Snapped at 12 Games

It was a good run, but Pymatuning Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 43-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maplewood Rockets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-24 back in December of 2024.

Defeat or not, Pymatuning Valley got some senior leadership from Jolene Sharpe and Kelsie Britton. Sharpe posted two points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Britton scored eight points. Sadie Paul also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Maplewood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Urchek, who went 6 of 13 en route to 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Katie Wear was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Pymatuning Valley's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Maplewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pymatuning Valley will host Harding at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maplewood, they will be playing at home against Grand Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
