Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne Wayne Comes Up Short

After flying high against Blackford on Tuesday, Fort Wayne Wayne came back down to earth. The Generals took a 61-43 bruising from the Leo Lions on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Generals in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost nine in a row.

Despite the loss, Fort Wayne Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amiya Tyree posted 11 points.

Leah Shappell went supernova For Leo., almost dropping a triple-double with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists. That's the most points Shappell has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Collins, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 10 points along with six steals and five assists.

Fort Wayne Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Leo, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Fort Wayne Wayne will take on Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leo, they will face off against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
