The biggest upset of the week belonged to Moreau Catholic, who took down 668th ranked Moreau Catholic, 56-55. Jared Lozoya ran for 301 yards in the win.
Newark Memorial moved up to 315 from 383 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission Valley. The Cougars climbed the ranks as a result of defeating American 41-16.
Irvington's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Shank threw for 120 and two touchdowns and Daniel Gusev had 67 yards receiving. Eddie Higares helped Irvington's passing attack out by catching one ball for 22 yards.
Mission San Jose's Tamim Sarwary and James Gao have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sarwary has thrown for 1321 yards this season, while Gao, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 38 catches for 505 yards. The Vikings' Shank leads the league in rushing yards with 745.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Newark Memorial takes on second place Washington. Last week, Newark Memorial beat the Eagles, while Washington fell to Logan.
Irvington and the Mariners played the most hotly contested game in Mission Valley this week, with Irvington eventually emerging with a 56-55 victory. Lozoya in the win.
