Baseball Recap: Cosby Gets the Win

Cosby took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hancock County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Indians on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Indians on Thursday, they had to take a 15-9 loss.

Daegan Shelton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Cosby is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-17-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gage McCarty, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Cosby has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-18-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Hancock County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

As of now, neither Cosby nor Hancock County have any future games scheduled.
